With a financial background and Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) along with a Certificate in Regulated Equity Release (CeRER), Andy covers Bristol, Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire as a Loans Adviser.
We asked Andy some questions to find out what it means to be a loans adviser at Wessex Resolutions, what the future may look like and what Andy enjoys doing in his spare time.
Why did you get into the job?
You only need to visit towns and cities to see the amount of housing in disrepair. I strongly believe, in this day and age everyone should be living in warm and safe homes. Initially, I was surprised by how many people don’t, simply because they cannot afford to do so. I take real pride in the work I do and more importantly the end result; seeing how our offer of financial assistance helps to improve lives. Previously, I worked in the banking industry for 18 years but the role became less enjoyable due to the pressured sales environment. It felt more like pushing people to take out loans and credit cards rather than helping them.
What do you like about the job?
It’s great being able to meet customers and offer a personal service because no two customers are the same. I like that we’re financially inclusive and help customers who may not be able to source loans through other mainstream lenders by finding a loan solution that is right for their individual needs. By working in partnership with the Council, Home Improvement Agencies, Energy Advisers and Contractors, we are able to offer our customers a complete package, particularly when a customer is vulnerable. We are a flexible organisation and regularly discuss loan schemes and policies with our Council Partners, creating new schemes to fit with Council priorities.
What does the future hold?
I want to be able to help more home owners in the community and continue to spread the word about Lendology. I am becoming more and more involved in attending events with our partners to raise awareness. With the impending climate emergency upon us, I believe that Lendology have a role to play and I am looking forward to supporting/working more closely with our partners to help deliver this. Work has already begun in some areas and I would say watch this space!
What do you get up to in your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, whether that’s dragging them all out on dog walks or doing something simple like eating out. I am a member of the local Kettlebells club. I try to attend classes three times a week and have even managed to talk my wife into coming along. Last year, I took part in a 10k mud run on the banks of River Severn as part of the Kettlebell club. This year, we are looking to sign up to complete a 10k road run (much cleaner than doing it in mud!). We complete these challenges to raise charitable funding and this year it is in aid of Cancer research.
