On October 5, 2023, we had the privilege of hosting the “Built Environment & Homeowner Retrofit” webinar. This informative event offered invaluable insights into transforming homes and built environments for a greener future. Welcome and Poll 

The event began with an engaging kick-off by Emma Lower, our Chief Executive at Lendology CIC. Emma’s opening remarks set the tone for an insightful and interactive session. She also initiated a quick poll, allowing attendees to actively participate in the event from the start. 

Over 85 enthusiastic participants registered for our webinar, with 50 actively joining the live event. This impressive turnout reflects the shared commitment to sustainability and retrofitting in our community. 

Phil Brennan, Head of APSE Energy, shared his insights on the ambition and feasibility of organizations in their journey toward becoming net zero.  

Ian Preston, Director of Household Energy Services at the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), discussed how CSE supports local authorities in their retrofit efforts.  

Russell Smith, Founder and Managing Director of Parity Projects, shared his wisdom on the crucial aspect of planning for retrofit. Starting with the end in mind for clarity and traction is a guiding principle for successful retrofit projects. 

Stuart Leslie, Director of Buildings Decarbonisation & Energy Efficiency at UK Infrastructure Bank, delved into the intricacies of accessing finance and attracting investment for retrofit projects.  

Ellie Lister, Operations Director at Lendology CIC, shared valuable insights about Retrofit Loans. 

Q&A Session 

The webinar concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, hosted by Emma Lower, Chief Executive at Lendology CIC. The audience had the opportunity to engage with our speakers, asking questions and gaining further insights.

Analysis of Poll Results 

During the webinar, we conducted a poll to gauge the priorities of our participants in the realm of retrofitting. Here’s a summary of the poll results, which continue to inform our understanding of the challenges and priorities of our community: 

Retrofit Priorities: What Matters Most to You? 

The majority of participants recognized the interconnectedness of the climate crisis and the cost of living (COL) crisis, emphasizing the need to address both simultaneously. 

Support for homeowner retrofit varies, with some planning to start offering support soon. 

Collaboration with external organizations to address challenges is actively being considered by many. 

Priorities span from increasing grant funding to reducing energy bills, carbon emissions, and boosting homeowner motivation.
