2020 has been unusual and difficult in equal measure. The months of lockdown have had a huge impact on our mental health so World Mental Health Day 2020 is more important than ever before. According to research by Mind, we know that more than half of adults and over two-thirds of young people said their mental health got worse during lockdown. During these uncertain times, we must remember to be kind to ourselves.
Resources that may help you
With the majority of us who are often office-based now embracing the new ‘normal’ working from home, we thought we would share some of our teams’ top tips for staying well and overcoming the challenges of working at home.
#WFH Tips:
- Keeping to a routine. Getting up at the same time and sticking to your usual morning routine can help get your mind in the zone for work.
- Look the part. Working from home in your pyjamas may sound like a dream but research shows that this approach may not be best for productivity.
- Take plenty of breaks. Get up, go outside for some air, make a drink or just have ten minutes away from the screen.
- Having a dedicated workspace may work for you but some find that changing rooms every now and again helps gain a different perspective.
- Company and cuddles from your dog. Nothing more calming than the peaceful presence of an animal that loves you.
- Stay hydrated. Don’t forget to keep up your intake of water; it’s easy to get focused and have time run away.
- Connect with your colleagues. Working out of the office can be isolating because of the lack of human interaction and as we all know, effective communication is key to working relationships so remember to check-in for a chat and virtually socialise with your team.
- Be kind to yourself. Adapting can be difficult and you might not be as productive as you usually would be. Be realistic and don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
