Devon-based Social enterprise, Cosmic who provides digital support and training for individuals and communities have launched a scheme to source unwanted computers to refurbish for people who need digital skills to help build a positive future. There are currently 1.9 million households who don’t have access to a digital device.
We are thrilled to be able to have helped Cosmic by donating 12 laptops as part of their Positive People Project in Devon.
Cosmic have now refurbished the devices and have started to allocate them. They said “Here at Positive People, we are using the refurb project to support people who may find themselves at a disadvantage due to disability or health conditions.
We are currently working with a gentleman who has a visual impairment as well as a learning disability. He is a very skilled man and Positive People have supported him to access some online learning that will support him to achieve his goal of employment. His desired employment involves significant digital input and the creation of complex reports.
Thanks to your donation we are able to provide the gentleman with a good standard laptop which will have dictation and screen reader software installed. This alongside some bespoke training on the use of the software will hopefully lead to success and a huge enhancement in day to day life. Without the devices that are donated to us, this wouldn’t have been a possibility. Watch this space for updates on our progress!”
