Meet David. He lives in South Wimbledon with his wife in an 1880s semi-detached home, a property full of character, but not always built for comfort.
“As we’ve grown older, that’s become more important to us,” David explains.
Living in an older property brought its challenges, particularly during colder months as the house struggled to retain heat.
“The difficulty of living in an 1880s house is it gets cold and the bills go up – and as you get older, these things matter more.”
Wanting to make their home warmer and more comfortable, David decided to replace the windows with double glazing. Through Merton Council, he was put in touch with Lendology.
“I approached Lendology and they were most helpful… I had double glazing on all our windows.”
David describes himself as a technophobe, but found the process manageable with support from the team throughout.
“Lendology were very helpful indeed… they suggested a way of compensating for that.”
Since having the work completed, the difference has been clear in day-to-day life.
“Now every day in the morning we don’t get up and shiver – we just get up and the house is warm.”
“We feel more comfortable during the day… and we’re very happy with that.”
Reflecting on his experience, David encourages others who may be facing similar challenges to explore what support might be available locally.
“I would suggest that anyone who feels uncomfortable… approach their council and ask for their advice.”
Support and options available may vary depending on individual circumstances.
David’s story is one example of how practical home improvements may help improve comfort and support people to live in homes that are safer, warmer and healthier.
