Lendology CIC Achieves Social Enterprise Silver Mark: A Milestone in Commitment to Social Value

November 16 2023

We are thrilled to announce that Lendology CIC has been awarded the prestigious Social Enterprise Silver Mark, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to social value and excellence within the social enterprise sector. The accreditation was officially launched at the Social Enterprise Mark CIC’s Silver Mark event, attended by our CEO, Emma Lower. This accolade not only underscores the effectiveness of our business model but also reflects our dedication to making a positive impact on our community.

Lucy Findlay MBE, Managing Director of Social Enterprise Mark CIC:

“The Silver Mark denotes the latest step in the journey that we have created towards social enterprise excellence. It goes to prove not only how good the business model is but how well a social enterprise is doing at making a difference to its community. We welcome our first Silver Mark holders and their long-term commitment to accreditation and excellence, looking forward to opening this new standard out to others showing what good businesses they are as well as giving feedback on how they might become even better, from our expert assessors.”

Paul Tarrant, Director of Accreditation & Training, Social Enterprise Mark Company CIC:

“I’m excited that we have three of our current Mark Holders going through assessment to the Social Enterprise Silver Mark. This is an important new development for SEM CIC as it addresses the need for a progressive step between the Social Enterprise Mark and our widely respected Gold Mark. The criteria of the Silver Mark build upon the six criteria of the Social Enterprise Mark with five additional criteria requiring an organisation to demonstrate Robust Governance; effective stakeholder engagement; ethical and good business practice; financial transparency, and the reporting of social impact. I’m confident that applicants to the Silver Mark will greatly benefit, not just in achieving and holding the Mark itself, but from completing their self-assessment and working through the accreditation process with our experienced assessors. The feedback report they receive will help them identify what they are doing well along with the key areas for improvement against the criteria.”

Emma Lower, CEO, Lendology CIC:

“As an established social enterprise trading for over 20 years, we are always looking for ways to increase consumer awareness and trust in the industry. The Silver Mark accreditation gives the industry another opportunity to work together to highlight our commitment to social value, and at Lendology, we were thrilled to be part of this pilot program. We encourage all social enterprises, regardless of size or trading experience, to consider this amplified award and would be happy to share our experience of the process with any fellow SEs. We found the process really straightforward but at the same time, very thorough. Building an ethical and inclusive economy is key to achieving sustainable growth, and the social enterprise industry already acknowledges this. Consumer and stakeholder buy-in about the ethics of every social enterprise is vital to ensuring the continued growth of the sector for a better economy for all, and the Silver Mark recognises this commitment to shared values.”

As a Social Enterprise Silver Mark holder, we proudly align ourselves with the highest standards in social enterprise. This amplified standard of social enterprise accreditation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to a course of continuous improvement. Through external assessments against robust criteria, we have proven our dedication to operating ethically, commercially, and upholding recognised standards of best practice.

Being part of a diverse network of accredited social enterprises, we have undergone rigorous evaluation, ensuring that we meet recognised standards for social enterprise upheld by an independent Accreditation Panel. Our success, as a Social Enterprise, is not measured through profit but through the outcomes for people.

Our unique lending scheme, funded by local councils, enables us to support individuals who often have nowhere else to turn. Lendology CIC, as a social enterprise lender working in partnership with local councils, aims to improve the private sector housing stock. We provide accessible finance for homeowners, facilitating home repairs, adaptations, and renewable energy measures.

Unlike mainstream lenders, Lendology doesn’t rely on algorithms or credit scores; people make lending decisions for people. We firmly believe that everyone should have access to a home that is safe, warm, and suitable for their individual needs. Our work across the community aims to enable this, reduce fuel poverty, and establish the link between health and homes.

Lendology CIC’s achievement of the Social Enterprise Silver Mark is a significant milestone, reflecting our ongoing commitment to excellence and social value. As we proudly display the Silver Mark, we invite fellow social enterprises to consider this accreditation, fostering a collective effort to build a more ethical and inclusive economy for the benefit of all.
