Meet Mark. He lives with his wife in Somerset. In 1991, Mark shattered his leg playing football. When he and his family moved, it quickly became clear that the house wasn’t accessible, making everyday tasks exhausting, unsafe, and limiting.
“A general semi-detached house had suddenly got to become disabled-friendly”.
Over time, Mark and his family explored different adaptations, including lifts and changes to the layout, however, not all solutions worked as intended.
“We tried a whole manner of things.. but it was detrimental to my own health at the end. Something had to be done.”
After discussing his situation with an occupational therapist, he was introduced to Lendology. Mark decided to explore options to make more substantial improvements to his home.
“I was told by an OT about yourselves.. we needed the work done, so it was a case of right, lets go for it.”
The work included creating a more accessible layout, with space to live more independently.
“It was to have a standard room where I can call my own bedroom… a front room and a kitchen. It’s not clinical, it’s not a hospital room.”
Mark describes the whole process as manageable, with individual support throughout.
“I found the process totally easy. I was always supported by Lendology”.
Since completing the work, Mark says the changes have made everyday life more straightforward.
“I haven’t got to worry about trying to get upstairs… or sleeping on a settee. I haven’t got none of those worries.”
For Mark, the adaptations have helped make his home more suitable for his needs, supporting greater independence and day-to-day comfort.
“If I could have done this 20 years ago, I’d have been so happy.”
