Addressing Energy Efficiency Needs in Cornwall
Over half of homes lack access to mains gas, leaving many residents reliant on costly and inefficient heating sources like oil. This reliance on non-renewable energy contributes to high energy consumption and carbon emissions, exacerbating the region’s environmental challenges.
Many homes in Cornwall suffer from poor energy efficiency, leading to increased health risks, financial burdens, and strain on public services such as the NHS.
Shockingly, Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) reveal that over 24% of owner-occupied homes, 15% of private rented sector (PRS) homes, and 6% of social housing likely have low-performing EPC ratings (F or G). This equates to roughly 20% of all housing stock in Cornwall.
Government Funding and Cornwall Council’s Lead Role
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by the Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
