Lending Done Differently

Healthy Homes: A Key to Preventing Poor Health

Written by Emma Lower, Chief Executive

Healthy homes are essential for healthier lives. Our Chief Executive, Emma Lower, and Chief Operating Officer, Ellie Lister, recently attended the King’s Fund Conference, where they discussed the vital link between housing and health.

Professor Sir Stephan Powis, National Medical Director of NHS England, has highlighted that focusing on health prevention is crucial. His research shows that ensuring homes are safe, warm, and well-maintained can significantly reduce health issues in our communities.

Lendology is committed to supporting homeowners in creating and maintaining healthy living environments. Since 2005, we have worked with local councils across the UK to offer responsible loans for essential home repairs, energy efficiency upgrades, and adaptations. Our fair lending practices mean that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can access the funds they need to improve their homes.

As a B Corp and social enterprise lender, Lendology has made a significant impact in our communities. To date, we have provided over £25 million in council funding, helping individuals and families who may struggle to access traditional finance. Our transparent approach ensures that we regularly report on our community impact, showcasing the positive changes we foster through our initiatives.

According to our recent Social Impact Report, the health of our homes directly impacts the health of their occupants. This year, 65% of our customers reported that the condition of their home was causing them major or moderate problems. Remarkably, this figure reduces to just 8% after the works were completed. Additionally, nearly 90% of our customers said that the improvements to their home had a positive impact on their health and well-being. This highlights that our loans are not just financial support; they are vital investments in the well-being of our communities.

As Emma and Ellie gathered insights from the conference, we remain dedicated to advocating for policies that recognise the importance of quality housing for public health. Healthy homes are not just necessary; they are a vital investment in the future of our communities.

Stay tuned for more updates from the conference, and let’s work together to promote healthier homes for healthier lives!
